We speak to filmmaker Jay Shapiro, who directed the new film, Islam and the Future of Tolerance, based on the book of dialogue between atheist neuroscientist, Sam Harris, and former Islamic radical turned Muslim reformer, Maajid Nawaz. With co-director Desh Amila and producer Aaron Louis, Jay has made a stunning and moving documentary about how two people who weren’t “supposed” to get along struck up a friendship and alliance despite their disagreements. We also get into some interesting discussions about reform, what “Muslim” means in the twenty-first century, and the various mindsets that determine how people approach sensitive topics. Don’t miss this!
