Mahleej Sarkari is a former winner of the Miss Pakistan World and Miss Tourism Queen International pageants, who comes from a mixed family background of Muslims, Parsis, and others. Raised Muslim in her childhood, Mahleej decided it wasn't working for her in later life. She now sees herself more spiritual and less religious, identifying more with her maternal Parsi side. A former beauty queen raised in a country and religion that thrives on archaic notions of "modesty," and a former refugee to her family's adopted home of Canada, Mahleej has unique perspectives on life and the world that she is outspoken about. She joined us to speak about them in this episode.
